The 6th annual “Be Cool for Our School” Polar Plunge is this Saturday. The event will benefit Marian Catholic High School. The plunge takes place at Mauch Chunk Lake in Jim Thorpe and registration is open from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Those who register first will start plunging at 12:00 p.m. However, you also have the option to register as a “Chicken” instead, meaning you will be supporting the cause but staying dry at the same time. All registers must be 18+ except for students of Marian High School. There is no fee for anyone who only wants to spectate the event.

Key Club is taking gift card donations for the Lehigh Valley Humane Society, which is a local animal shelter that takes in a wide range of animals. The gift cards can be worth any amount and can be from any pet store or grocery store. The cards will be dropped off to the Humane Society at the end of the month and will be used to help feed the 70 beagle puppies that they have recently taken in. The cards will also go towards the multiple birds, reptiles, and pigs that have been taken in after living in deplorable conditions. As of now the pigs are being housed at a volunteer’s house and the reptiles are waiting to be identified by experts. For both SHS teachers and students who are interested in donating, all gift cards can be given directly to Mrs. Hutchinson-Birk in room 138 during Falcon Period, or they can be placed in the envelope in the mailroom.
