As someone who loves wasting their money on makeup, I have tried many different products. Many of these products I saw on Tik Tok, Instagram and Pinterest. Some of these products end up being my all-time favorites such as the Clarins Lip Comfort Oil and the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Blush. However, some of the products were a waste of money and made me wish I listened to my parents when they said not to spend money.
10. Kosas Wet Lip Oil Plumping Treatment Gloss
Kosas Cosmetics is well-known for its phenomenal concealer and pressed setting powder. After spending my well-earned $22 on this, I would never reach for this again. The name fooled me; this lip oil isn’t plumping at all, and the shimmer sits uncomfortably on your lips. It is average, nothing special. If you want a high-quality, affordable lip oil, I would recommend the Ulta Juice Infused Lip Oil.
9. DIOR Addict Lip Glow Oil
There is something with these lip products that make them overrated. However, the DIOR Addict Lip Glow Oil is easily the most overhyped product of 2021. The rich girls went wild for this. It is $35 for 0.2 ounces of lip oil. However, this does not perform as lip oil since it’s so sticky. I would say this is just glamorized lip gloss because of the luxurious brand. This product is sub-par at best.
8. Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
It is no secret that a good setting powder that makes your makeup stay and look good is a miracle for makeup consumers. However, this makes makeup look cakey and dry after a few hours due to its thick formula. Although there is a lot of product, I still don’t believe that it is worth $39 which some people don’t even earn in an hour.
7. L’Oréal Infallible 24HR Fresh Wear Foundation In A Powder
Easy to apply, perfect for on the go, lasts a long time: doesn’t that sound perfect? Let’s wake back up to the reality which is that it clings onto dry spots and looks thick. It might look beautiful after a minute of applying but will look awful in photos. When my mom reached for this at Ulta, I literally pushed her hand away from this product.
6. MILK MAKEUP Hydro Grip Hydrating Primer
This sure does grip… onto your dry patches. If you’re one to do your makeup quickly, this will not suit you. If you don’t let the primer set into your skin, it will separate your makeup. Once again, there isn’t really anything special about this. The standard size costs $36 which is unreasonable for such an average product.
5. Kaja Joystick Brightening Undereye Setting Powder
This product feels like it comes from a princess makeup kit for kids. The only reason why this product got hyped was because of the unique packaging. It is astonishing how little product comes; there are only 0.09 ounces of powder for $20. To be honest, I think that the popularization of this powder just proves how desperate people are to be different. Also, many have said that this powder is inconvenient and that a drugstore powder is just as good.
4. Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Medium Coverage Liquid Foundation
This foundation does make your skin beautiful until a few hours later, then it separates. Many people including myself claim that this foundation oxidizes and appears patchy and cakey on the face. Although it does look good on a handful of people, $44 is a reach.
3. Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand
The formula of the Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand is phenomenal; I’m not even going to lie. It is easy to apply and blend. But, the area where this product lacks is the shade range. People with darker skin have said that this contour doesn’t have a shade dark enough for them. Also, this product lacks shades for different undertones. Many customers have also complained about the lack of product for the price.
2. Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey
This does look amazing on everyone, but it is so average. It is basically just tinted chapstick made by a well-known brand which makes them believe that they have the right to overprice products. There are many dupes out there that perform the same. There is no reason why anyone should spend $20 on this when the five-dollar Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm exists.
1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Styling Wax
This brow product started to get popular along with the “clean girl” makeup style. The point of this product is to lift your eyebrows and give them a more natural look. However, many consumers have complained that this product is overpriced and does not perform well. Although it claims to be clear, after a while, it turns your eyebrows white and crunchy. One review on Sephora says, “It’s literally just edge control without the fruity scents. Would not recommend. Just pick up some edge control from your local beauty supply store & save your coins!” There is no reason why this product should cost $23.
