Salisbury Girls Basketball Looking To Improve The Rest Of The Year

By Quinn Wittman

Lady Falcon’s started their season Monday night (12/9) as they played Pen Argyl. After three weeks of practicing, running plays, and conditioning, the Falcons were ready to finally compete. Looking back on last year, the Lady Falcons went 3-18 winning against Catasauqua twice and Saucon Valley. The team is hoping to change that to at least 8 or nine wins, possibly more. After losing three senior starters, the team pulled up Sierra Rauch, Arianna Young, and Kayla Trenge to play the part. The other two spots remain  Madison Bettuccio and Quinn Wittman, two varsity returners.

Everyone was out of the locker room and ready to go at 7:00pm as the whistle blew and the game began. A slow start for the Falcons, ending with a score of 6-22 at the end of the first quarter. Picking it up after a short talk with varsity coach, Dan Riechanbach, fans could see improvement right away. Shortly after the halftime buzzer sounded,  the score was 21-32.

The third and fourth quarter went back and forth for who was winning, but Pen Argyl got it together and the Falcons couldn’t stop them. At the end of the game, the Falcons lost 39-57,  losing Bettuccio to a sprained ankle.

After the game, talking to junior Sierra Rauch, I asked “What could your team improve on and how are you going to get more wins this year than last?” Rauch stated that, “Our team can and has improved working together on the court and not bringing the drama from outside onto the court. I think that’s how we’re gonna get more wins. When we work together and push ourselves we gain points, ” Rauch said.
