While this is only a small sample of all the romantic comedies that are out there, these movies is your pre-approved Valentine’s Day watchlist, whether you’re for this sappy holiday or you’re lying on the couch eating ice cream.
- To All The Boys I Loved Before
This movie is ranked top on our list for its endearing vibe and its memorable characters. The main character, Lara Jean, writes five letters to every boy she ever loved. To her dismay, (and to the viewer’s entertainment), they accidentally get sent in the mail. To fix this, Lara Jean goes into a fake relationship with an old friend to convince that she’s not in love with her sister’s ex-boyfriend. However, this creates an even bigger mess. To All The Boys I Loved Before is a classic tale of doing the wrong things for the right reasons.
2.) Set It Up
Available on Netflix, this laugh-out-loud rom-com is about two assistants who are sick and tired of their overbearing bosses, so they decide to set them up together to get them off their backs. What they did not know, however, is that they would fall for each other. Full of relatable humor and hilarious quips, Set It Up is definitely your feel-good movie if you’re sitting at home this Valentine’s Day.
3.) The Kissing Booth
Elle Evans and Lee Flynn have been best friends since they were born. They do everything together, including running a kissing booth for the spring carnival. Nonetheless, after a misunderstanding, Elle ends up locking lips with Lee’s older brother, Noah. Talk about a disaster waiting to happen. This charming movie, however, still earns third rank on our list for its quirky moments and its lovable characters.
4.) He’s Just Not That Into You
While this movie may not be automatically recognizable, you’ll automatically recognize the actors and actresses who star in this movie, some of which include Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, and many more. This sweet movie focuses on the love lives of many different people, who try to navigate the ups and downs of their relationships. If you’re looking for a good movie for Valentine’s Day movie, this would be it.
5.) Legally Blonde
Reese Witherspoon crushes it as the smart, optimistic Elle Woods, who gets accepted into Harvard Law School to win back her boyfriend, who thinks she’s “too blond.” In this chick flick, we follow Elle as she forms friendships, makes enemies, and shows the male-dominated world of law that that so-called dumb blonde stereotype is nonexistent.
6) The Princess Diaries
In this timeless comedy, Mia Thermopolis goes from being ordinary girl living in San Francisco to a full-out royal princess. From crushes at school to avoiding the press, Mia has a lot on her plate, which also includes lessons from her grandmother on how to be a princess. However, she has still remembered her best friend and her older brother, who happens to have crush on her.
7.) Dumplin’
Popular on Netflix, this winning comedy is all about how size doesn’t matter and things are not always what they seem. Enter: Willowdean Dickson, our full-figured protagonist, daughter of beauty queen mom, who runs the local beauty pageant. In an effort of defiance, Willowdean enters the pageant to show her town that it’s all not all about having a Barbie body. Along the way, she encounters romance and as well as forms friendships.
8.) Wedding Planner
Starring Jennifer Lopez, this movie’s about a girl named Mary, a wedding planner who doesn’t believe in love. That is, until she is saved from colliding with an out-of-control dumpster by Steve, a handsome doctor. Little does she know, that she’ll be planning his wedding. And she’s not the bride. This comedy’s all about second chances and listening to your heart.
9.) Monster-In-Law
In this movie, the girl already has the guy—she just has to get his mom’s approval. Charlie, an office temp, is engaged to Kevin, a rich surgeon. However, his mom, washed-up newscaster, Viola, who is in need of her son after her breakdown on camera, is merciless when it comes to destroying their relationship. Another rom-com with Jennifer Lopez, this movie is still worth watching for its dramatic characters and storyline.
10.) 13 Going on 30
Remember when you were a kid and all you wanted to be was a grown-up? Yeah, in this movie, that becomes a reality. 13 year-old Jenna becomes the 30 year-old version of herself overnight. Played by Jennifer Garner, Jenna realizes that being an adult is much harder than meets the eye. Scared and vulnerable, Jenna tracks down her best friend in middle school, Matt. Sparks fly between them as Jenna finally is made aware of what she actually wants in life.
