This week is Red Ribbon week; this celebration runs from October 29th to November 2. Red Ribbon week is an alcohol, tobacco, drug, and violence prevention campaign that is held and celebrated during the month of October. During this week, schools hold days where students may dress up and be informed of the history of this week and are encouraged to say no to drugs and alcohol. This week is also held in honor of Enrique Camarena. His story sparked several movements, support groups, and campaigns across the country that promote the prevention of drug and alcohol abuse.

Key Club is taking gift card donations for the Lehigh Valley Humane Society, which is a local animal shelter that takes in a wide range of animals. The gift cards can be worth any amount and can be from any pet store or grocery store. The cards will be dropped off to the Humane Society at the end of the month and will be used to help feed the 70 beagle puppies that they have recently taken in. The cards will also go towards the multiple birds, reptiles, and pigs that have been taken in after living in deplorable conditions. As of now the pigs are being housed at a volunteer’s house and the reptiles are waiting to be identified by experts. For both SHS teachers and students who are interested in donating, all gift cards can be given directly to Mrs. Hutchinson-Birk in room 138 during Falcon Period, or they can be placed in the envelope in the mailroom.

Did somebody say freshmen? No. Nobody ever does, but in this special installment of the Salisbury Super Students, we are featuring our very own freshman, Andrew Hines. Many of you have probably never heard this name before because he is actually a new student to the Salisbury School District. He’s always lived in the township, but this is first year attending a Salisbury school.
