Homecoming Court Nominees

By Justin Burkhardt

This year’s homecoming court nominees participated in the Salisbury parade last Friday evening. The parade began at HST at 5:00pm and traveled to the high school at around 6:30pm. Along the route the homecoming court nominees threw candy to the onlookers. The female nominees include: Sarah Bobeck, Katie Rutt, Melinda Rivera, Riley Peters, and Rylee Donaldson. The male nominees include: Jack Frankenfield, Jacob Kamp, Brendan Miller, Delano McKenzie, and Justin Burkhardt. Due to conflict with scheduling for the football game, Jack, Jacob, and Delano will not be participating in the parade. We sat down with Sarah Bobeck, then nominee, to ask questions leading up to the parade, as well as a follow up interview after all of the homecoming festivities. We also sat down with Justin Burkhardt for the same process.

Q: Sarah, how are you feeling ahead of the parade?

A: I’m a very excited to be a homecoming court nominee and I can’t wait to interact with the community this way.

Q: What has been your favorite part of this experience so far?

A: Being able to collaborate with the fellow nominees and make this a great experience for all of us has certainly by favorite part of all of this.

Q: Who are your top picks to win King and Queen?

A: Delano and Melinda, they’re definitely the favorites.

Next we, sat down with Justin Burkhardt for an interview before and after the festivities.

Q: Justin, how are you feeling ahead of the parade?

A: Great question Justin, it certainly is nerve-racking. I am all for being on the court, that is only low to moderately embarrassing. I’m certainly excited to use my 5th string QB arm to toss out some candy.

Q: What has been your favorite experience thus far?

A: Being announced over the intercom through the school was pretty funny and enjoyable so as of yet that certainly my favorite so far, Justin.

Q: Who are your top picks for King and Queen?

A: Definitely Delano for Homecoming King. The Homecoming Queen is a complete toss-up.

After Sarah Bobeck and Justin Burkhardt won Homecoming Queen and King we decided to sit down with them again for another interview.

Q: Sarah, how does it feel to peak in high school?

A: Oh, it’s just greatttttttt.

Q: Are you excited to go only downhill from here?

A: You have no idea how excited I am.

Finally, we sat down with Justin to capture his experience.

Q: Justin, how does it feel to peak in high school?

A: It’s certainly an honor and a privilege, besides it being one of the most embarrassing moments of my life thus far. For the record, I am awful at slow dancing.

Q: Are you excited to go only downhill from here?

A: Absolutely.
