Make Your Own Szechuan Sauce

Were you excited for McDonald’s limited time szechuan sauce? Did you miss the opportunity to try some szechuan? If you answered yes and yes, then this article is a must read. As we all know, the sauce is gone and will be gone for about a year until it makes it return. If you would like to have a taste without the wait, then just make your own. The recipe for the sauce is as follows.


  • 50g minced garlic
  • 50g minced ginger
  • 50g minced scallion
  • 4oz maple syrup
  • 2oz sherry vinegar
  • 1 ½ oz soy sauce
  • 4oz ketchup
  • 2g potato starch
  • 2g ground sichuan peppercorn
  • 2g finely chopped chillies



1 – mix half of the soy sauce and potato starch in a bowl


2 – combine syrup, ketchup, sherry vinegar, and the rest of the soy sauce in a pan. Keep on low-medium heat and simmer for 15 minutes.


3 – add soy sauce/potato starch mixture and simmer for another 2 minutes. Remember to mix constantly to avoid lumps


4 – add sichuan peppercorn and chili and mix
