A few weeks ago Taylor Swift released her debut single Look What You Made Me Do from her upcoming album Reputation. The song and its video broke numerous records within the first week of it’s release, including the video being the most viewed music video on youtube in 24 hours with a total of 43.2 million views. Look What You Made Me Do shot to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 (which she is the first within its second week of release).
Look What You Made Me Do displayed many hidden messages in the music video. One of the major hidden messages showed Taylor lying in a bathtub of REAL diamonds costing over 10 million dollars with a $1 bill lying on top. The main meaning behind this scene is the subtly placed dollar bill, which signifies how much money she was awarded during a recent trial she went through after an interviewer inappropriately touched her during a meet-and-greet. While the interviewer was seeking for $3 million in damages, Taylor countersuits only $1…which she won.
Another major hidden message is when

Taylor can be seen robbing a company called “Streaming Co.’s” safe. This is a direct jab at Spotify after the company claimed Taylor was robbing the company after she removed all of her music from the service in 2014 because the company “underpaid” the artists.
If you’ve seen the video, you would know we couldn’t forget to mention the ending, where fourteen Taylor Swift’s from each era of her career are seen speaking to each other, using quotes from previous feuds with other people. One of the Taylor’s says “You guys!” in a surprised face and other responds with “Stop making that surprised face, it’s so annoying.” while another says “Yeah, you can’t possibly be THAT surprised all the time”. This refers to people who got angry after Swift seemed to act fake when accepting the many awards she wins. A different Taylor from across the room says “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative,” through a microphone while all other thirteen Taylor’s yell “Shut up!”. This refers to a direct quote from herself she captioned an Instagram post after Kim Kardashian leaked her phone call with Kanye West, and we all know about that story.
Given Taylor Swift has one of the largest platforms in the world today, her music is highly looked upon and this video proves that some mistakes will last. Even though Swift makes fun of herself at some points, it’s clear to say Look What You Made Me Do is one of the biggest songs of the year.
