Extension of the School Year
By Nathan Rolls
So far this year, many students, teachers, and staff have believed that the 2017 winter would be a breeze. Only one day was added to the end of the school year, and it seemed that everyone was content. Just as students thought they were clear for winter, they found out that they definitely were not. On March 21st 2017, winter storm Stella moved in fast and heavy, totaling about an inch or more per hour for the first 5 hours of the storm. Some places in the Lehigh Valley reached a total 10 inches to 14 inches of snow.
This resulted in a total of 3 days off of school, March 14th, 15th, and 16th. The aftermath of the storm made the roads troubling, not just for buses and bus drivers, but also cars and student drivers. This then made the last day of school for all Salisbury Township School students, except seniors, to Monday June 12th, 2017. The last day for the senior class is still as scheduled for Thursday, June 1st, 2017.
