Salisbury Students Attending LCTI Take Many Awards At Regional SkillsUSA Competition

SkillsUSA held a regional tournament on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the Agriplex, where students compete as a part of a team representing LCTI. The LCTI team competed against teams from other local technical schools including Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School, Career Institute of Technology, Monroe Career & Technology Institute, and the Upper Bucks County Technical School.
The teams at SkillsUSA compete in more than fifty competitions within various programs of studies that are operated at all the schools. The winners are determined by who can most impressively prove an applied concept within the skill.
The event was very successful for LCTI, who took home 17 gold medals, 18 silver, and 22 bronze medals. Awards were announced at the awards ceremony at Parkland High School. This was more than the other teams combined. Scholarships were provided to top finishers and first place winners were given the opportunity to attend the state championships in Hershey between. As part of SkillsUSA, Salisbury won three first place medals and three second place medals. First place medals were won by senior Desiree Nester in Basic Healthcare Skills, junior Dustin Kramer in Technical Drafting, and sophomore Zaki Al-Bajali in Carpentry. Second place medals were won by senior Cory Brunner in Tech. Computer Applications, senior John Kochenberger in Electronics Technology, and junior Alyssa Wygand in First Aid/CPR.
