Moana and Fantastic Beasts

By Jocelyn Donaldson

Last week, I faced something much, much worse than even torture. I had a family day. Sure, this wouldn’t be such a bad thing if it weren’t for the fact that I have three rambunctious little sisters along with a younger brother. Still don’t understand? Well, imagine a car full of screaming children, a visit to a trampoline place in which each sibling was lost at least once, and, to make sure my migraine lasted for days, a movie with seventeen bathroom visits. Okay, rant is now over. Moving on, from what I saw of the movie, it was amazing. Considering we had younger children with, we went to see an age appropriate movie or at least that’s what i’m using as my excuse. On Thanksgiving Day, the new disney movie Moana came out. This cartoon movie follows a young teen named Moana as she tries to fulfill her destiny and save her island and family. She is accompanied by a chicken and a former mighty demi-god named Maui. It’s an adorable movie that the inner child in everyone will want to see. It helps that Maui is played by the amazingly talented Dwayne Johnson, otherwise known as The Rock. Adorable baby Moana will steal hearts within the first five minutes of the movie.

Another movie I watched recently that’s worth checking out is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Based off all the mythical creatures found in the infamous Harry Potter series, the book turned movie has action, comedy, and more. Newt Scamander has spent his life devoted to protecting mythical beasts from everyone who misjudges them and wishes to kill them. Newt has managed to go around the world protecting the creatures by creating a hidden sanctuary for them in his brief case. His quest has now led him to New York, where a swap of a magical and ordinary case leads to some major problems. Newt teams up with a funny muggle (human) named Jacob, and a sister duo to find his lost creatures before they hurt themselves or cause damage to the city.

Two incredibly different movies, and yet both are amazing in their own ways. Moana is the perfect family movie that anyone can enjoy. Fantastic Beasts is one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in awhile if you’re looking for a good laugh, Grab some friends or family and go this weekend to see either one of these amazing movies. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
