Salisbury Softball Starts with a Loss
By CJ Wittman
The Salisbury softball team started off their season with a game against Pen Argyl on March 29th, with a tough loss in extra innings. The final score ended up 2-1. Lillia Crouthamel had a triple and Brooke Rogers knocked her in with a sacrifice fly. With Rogers on the mound, the Falcons were able to maintain a solid defense, but they just weren’t able produce enough runs.
On March 30th, Salisbury headed to Catasauqua for their second game of the season. The Rough Riders were able to score one run in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. Salisbury battled back with four runs throughout the next three innings while only allowing one. Falcons took the lead at 4-3. After a scoreless 6th inning, Salisbury scored another run in the 7th to increase the lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the 7th, Catty scored three runs to win the game in a walk off victory. Anna Bishop, Lilia Crouthamel, Morgan Goletz, and Rachel Costantini all had RBIs, including a homerun from Costantini. Salisbury played an intense game, but lost 6-5, which gave them their second loss of the season.
In the third game of the season, against Notre Dame Green Pond, Salisbury was able to secure their first win. Salisbury was able to put up seven runs throughout the game, and only allowed two runs from their opponents. Emily Batman, Anna Bishop, Rachel Costantini, Morgan Goletz, and Peyton Stauffer all had RBIs.
Salisbury won both of their games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday they played Wilson and won 7-3. Catcher Rachel Costantini had 2 hits for the falcons and threw out 2 girls on the bases. On Wednesday, the softball team beat Northern Lehigh, a previously undefeated team, 6-2. Anna Bishop had 2 RBIs for the falcons.
Brooke Rogers said, “We are a young team, but we’re ready to play anyone.” Rogers explained that the team had some nerves during the first game, but played with composure. The team is happy with their defense, but needs to start hitting more. With a young team, and a lot of games ahead, the softball team will continue with their season and try to improve their skills.
